In November of 2006 Concrete Repairs Ltd (CRL) began work at Alexandra Docks, Newport. Handing back possession of the dock ready for operations to commence in April 2008, the 18 month project saw extensive concrete repair, cutting out and spray concrete works to the live docks underside, to a greatly satisfied client.
Scope of Works:
- Extensive Hydro-demolition, concrete repair & spray concrete works
- Water ingress repairs to underside beams and slabs of North Side of South Dock
- Construction of steel reinforced concrete beams to the underside of the dock
Access to repairs was achieved by cutting down through the top slab and installing a temporary stairwell. Upon completion of the project the stairwell was removed and the slab reconstructed.
With only one metre clearage between the underside dock and the water, further access was achieved through by partially submerging five eight metre long by two metre wide steel frame work barges. This allowed for a safe, comfortable working environment in an otherwise limited space that ultimately increased productivity and reduced costs.
CRL renegotiated a re-measurable contract to a lump sum contract saving the client in the region of £500,000.00 of the final contract value.
Client: Associated British Ports
Final Contract Value: £1,800,000.00
