BATTERSEA POWER STATION
<< Case Studies

Battersea Power Station is a derelict Grade 2 listed structure on the south bank of the River Thames in London. The site is planned for redevelopment into a commercial and residential complex incorporating the original station building and its iconic chimneys. As part of the enabling works the existing jetty needed to be repaired ready for the construction phase when it would be used to access the site.

Scope of Works:

  • Installation of fixed scaffold access to the underside of the structure
  • Survey of the concrete soffit, piles and beams
  • Removal of defective concrete using hydro-demolition
  • Reinstatement of concrete using sprayed concrete and hand placed mortars

Arup Consulting undertook the initial condition survey and prepared the tender documents for the work to proceed. CRL successfully tendered for the work to the Management Contractor , Bovis Lend Lease.

CRL installed fixed scaffold access down to mid tide level to enable the works to be undertaken safely.
All areas of the concrete to the underside of the jetty were surveyed with Arup to confirm the extent of the works necessary to reinstate the structural integrity.

Defective areas of concrete were removed using hydro-demolition to expose and clean the reinforcement. The concrete was reinstated using a combination of hand placed mortars for the small areas and sprayed concrete for the remainder.

Location: London

Value: £890,000.00
