LISTED BUILDINGS
Many early and mid 20th century reinforced concrete and steel framed buildings are now Listed by English Heritage. They represent unique examples of architecture and construction techniques and signify the culture of society at the time. Most of these structures require regular maintenance to manage their long-term durability. The work requires sympathetic repairs, using traditional materials/methods and minimal invasive work.
Concrete Repairs Limited (CRL) is able to provide a first class service in this field. The Company uses its own directly employed workforce with skills developed over the last 50 years. It is also at the leading edge of technology and has access to the latest techniques for minimising repairs and enhancing durability.
For reinforced concrete structures CRL is often able to source materials used in the original construction and then site batch, to match the existing mix design and texture finish. This provides a repair that is closely matched to the building’s current appearance, both in colour and texture. If long-term reinforcement corrosion problems exist, cathodic protection is often employed (in combination with the repairs) to minimise future problems.
Many steel framed structures, from the early 20th century, suffer from corrosion, which cracks the brick or stone facades. This is because buildings from this period quite often had the cavities backfilled with a weak concrete or mortar mix and any steel corrosion, due to moisture penetration, has caused cracks to occur in the facade. CRL is able to design and install impressed current cathodic protection systems to stop such corrosion problems from re-occurring.
The unique skills provided by CRL enable owners to manage their buildings and structures in a cost-effective manner, which fully complies with the listing requirements.
