MARINE STRUCTURES
As an Island, the UK has many marine structures, which are an important part of the infrastructure for communication, trade, defence and leisure. These structures, often made of reinforced concrete and steel, suffer from corrosion due to the very aggressive environment. Chlorides in the seawater penetrate the concrete over a number of years and initiate corrosion of the reinforcement above the mean low water line. Steel structures suffer from accelerated low water corrosion, which can be very aggressive and cause significant loss of steel section.
Concrete Repairs Limited (CRL) has been repairing marine structures for 50 years and fully understands the deterioration mechanisms and how to deal with them e.g. tides, access and divers, etc. The repairs to the deteriorated areas of concrete are usually substantial and require careful programming to maintain the integrity of the structure.
To ensure long-term durability for a marine structure, CRL is able to design and install a range of corrosion control systems, which may include protective coatings, or cathodic protection systems, or a combination of both.
As a main contractor CRL provides a comprehensive range of services to refurbish existing steel and concrete structures. It is also able to offer advice and installation services for corrosion prevention on new structures.
