International House was a ten storey 1960's commercial office block in Kingston town centre which was converted to a 100 bed Travelodge hotel.
Scope of Works:
- Provision of electric cradle access
- Concrete repairs
- Protective coatings
The external facades had some concrete cracking and spalling due to low cover to the reinforcement. CRL were employed by the main contractor to inspect and repair the concrete facades.
The facades were accessed using electric cradles from the roof and an initial survey of the concrete surfaces undertaken. The defective areas of concrete were broken out using electric tools and the exposed steel cleaned and primed with a protective coating. The concrete was reinstated using hand applied materials.
Following repair the concrete was cleaned by power washing and an anti carbonation coating applied to all exposed areas of concrete.
