| Concrete Repairs Ltd (CRL), the UK’s leading specialist main contractor, has secured a £1.35m project to refurbish a four-storey car park for the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Swansea. The thirty-week contract has only recently commenced.
Work will include the removal of approximately 7,000 square metres of asphalt from the top deck prior to the installation of a new waterproof deck membrane. All defective concrete on the lower soffits and deck areas, as well as those in the stairwells, will be removed by high-pressure water jetting, before being reinstated in readiness for new waterproof and decorative treatments.
This extensive refurbishment project also includes the installation of a galvanic cathodic protection system to control any likelihood of future steel reinforcement corrosion, the reinstatement of joint sealants and the removal and replacement of old lighting. In addition, existing doors and windows will be upgraded, together with balustrades and stair nosings.
CRL’s Site Manager, Charlie Shields commented, "This is a challenging and interesting multi-storey car park refurbishment contract. It is probably one of the largest projects to date to use this state-of-the-art corrosion control technology".
The project typifies the all-embracing nature of car park renovation and refurbishment work now being undertaken by CRL in order to meet many clients’ demands for comprehensive multi-disciplined services from a single central point.
