| In order to address the problem of the skills shortage that affects many parts of the Construction Industry, specialist main contractor, Concrete Repairs Limited (CRL), has set up its own in-house training facility to ensure that its workforce continues to carry out concrete renovation work of the highest quality, as demanded by both the company and its clients.
In the absence of City and Guilds qualifications and with no other external provider of NVQ accredited courses for the entire extent of concrete restoration services provided by the contractor, the need for an in-house training facility had become increasingly important.
With more than 50 years experience, in a vast range of specialist skills, CRL found itself in an ideal position to develop an in-house training scheme. As a result, the company is now able to ensure that its operatives receive a thorough training in all company activities and as a consequence, will work to the highest standards when on site.
Currently training modules exist, at various levels, for skills as diverse as cathodic protection, external wall insulation, epoxy resin injection, floor laying and steel plate bonding. Tuition is undertaken by CRL’s own skilled personnel and courses are run, both on and off site, throughout the UK.
By developing its employees' knowledge and capabilities, CRL will be able to provide an even better service than that for which it is already renowned.
