CRL give Kingsway MSCP new lease of life ...

Kingsway MSCP in Newport, South Wales was built part of a multi-million-pound City Centre rejuvenation in the mid-2000. The car park, which spans 8 levels serves both the adjoining shopping centre and adjacent high street. The 1050 space car park, which also serves local resident’s, business workers and NHS hospital staff, was in need of essential repairs to prevent further degradation of the car park levels.

Concrete Repairs Limited were awared the contract by Newport City Council to provide a new anti-slip waterproofing layer to the top exposed deck car park level along with resolving severe ponding water issues throughout the car park.

The works were carried out during a 10 week programme during late Summer 2020 and consisted of the removal of the existing failed deck coating’s, concrete deck inspection, testing and consequence concrete repairs followed by the application of a new rapid curing waterproofing coating. Colourful, bright safe pedestrian walkways and information marking’s were added, clearing highlighting the pedestrian routes to central lift core, leading to the
shopping centre.

With areas of severe standing water, providing a substantial slip hazard throughout the upper decks of the car park, level surveys were undertaken and a total of 32 number additional drainage outlets were provided.

The works carried out by CRL included;

      • Surface preparation to remove existing deck coating’s,
      • Enclosed captive shot blasting,
      • Concrete deck delamination surveys and deck Concrete repairs,
      • Pressure washing,
      • Application of rapid curing anti-slip waterproof deck coatings,
      • Application of line markings and information symbols, and
      • Installation of additional drainage outlets and associated pipework.
