Many concrete, steel, timber, or cast-iron structures require strengthening when load-bearing capacity is reduced due to corrosion, fatigue, damage, or a change of use. Unaddressed, these deficiencies can compromise safety, usability, and lifespan. CRL specialises in modern strengthening solutions using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) composites, High Performance Concrete (HPC), and Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC).
These techniques provide lightweight, durable, and sustainable engineering solutions, enabling structures to carry increased loads, resist further deterioration, and extend service life. By proactively strengthening assets, we ensure structures remain safe, functional, and compliant with current Eurocodes and best practice standards.
Strengthening
Solutions
CRL delivers two main CFRP strengthening methods: plate bonding and FRP wrap systems. Plates, manufactured off-site, are bonded to structural surfaces with epoxy for controlled quality, while wraps allow reinforcement around beams, columns, and complex geometries. Both systems require strict quality control and careful surface preparation, curing, and installation.
We also provide HPC and UHPFRC solutions for thin-layer repairs and structural upgrades, offering exceptional durability, ductility, chemical resistance, and freeze-thaw performance. Our teams design and install composites for a wide range of applications, from reinforced concrete beams and cast-iron bridges to modern floor slabs and bridge decks, delivering innovative, tailored, and reliable strengthening solutions.
CRL Strengthening
Services
CRL’s CFRP and HPC/UHPFRC solutions provide high-performance structural reinforcement that is lightweight, durable, and quick to install. Carbon fibre composites add minimal dead load while significantly increasing load-bearing capacity, making them ideal for modern and historic structures alike. HPC and UHPFRC provide superior strength, toughness, and long-term durability, even in aggressive environments.
Our expertise reduces downtime, minimises disruption, and ensures repairs comply with Eurocodes and industry guidance. Supported by over 25 years of pioneering research, trial projects, and collaboration with UK universities, CRL offers clients reliable, innovative, and cost-effective solutions for extending the life of their assets sustainably.

What our clients say
“Without doubt, CRL leads the FRP-strengthening industry in the UK. CRL’s extraordinary expertise and attention to detail place them apart from other companies in this field.”
