Multi-Storey Car Parks Concrete Repair Coatings Membranes Cleaning & Preparation Projects
Concrete Repairs Ltd (CRL) was appointed as Principal Contractor to refurbish the top exposed decks of a multi-storey car park, focusing on Levels 11 and 12. The existing waterproofing system had failed, leaving the concrete substrate exposed to environmental and traffic-related deterioration.
The decks are a critical operational component of the facility, requiring safe, durable surfaces for vehicles and pedestrians. The project was essential to restore structural integrity, prevent further spalling and delamination, and ensure long-term serviceability. CRL’s involvement reflects its expertise in concrete repairs, structural repairs UK, and advanced waterproofing solutions to support effective asset management of high-use multi-storey car parks.
Services undertaken
-
Removal of failed waterproofing system
-
Hammer test and visual survey of concrete decks
-
Captive shot blast preparation of deck surfaces
-
Installation of Triflex Deckfloor Hybrid and Deckfloor Ramp Hybrid waterproofing system
-
Upstand and beam-line reinforcement with Promesh and Triflex R230 overband
-
Reinstatement of line markings using Triflex coatings
The refurbishment began with the careful removal of the failed waterproofing system using fine mill planing and polyplaning, exposing the underlying concrete substrate. CRL conducted a comprehensive inspection combining visual assessment and hammer testing to identify delaminated or spalled areas requiring repair. This survey-led approach ensured all defective concrete was addressed, providing a sound surface for the new protective system.
All deck surfaces were then captive shot blast prepared, creating a profiled and contaminant-free substrate suitable for high-performance coatings. The main waterproofing system consisted of Triflex Deckfloor Hybrid and Deckfloor Ramp Hybrid, applied to the full deck area. Upstands were protected using a Triflex reinforced system, while beam lines were enhanced with a one-metre width strip of Promesh and a double overband of Triflex R230 reinforced overband. This reinforcement strategy addressed high-stress areas, minimising the risk of future cracking or water ingress.
Following system installation, all line markings were reinstated using Triflex coatings to match the existing layout, ensuring safe and clearly defined pedestrian and vehicle routes. CRL’s methodical approach, combining survey-driven repairs, specialist mechanical preparation, and high-performance Triflex systems, demonstrates its capability to deliver durable, technically robust solutions for multi-storey car park asset management.

"By applying a 1 meter width strip of Promesh and double overband of Triflex R230 reinforced overband prior to the main system being applied we were able to guarantee that the system would be fully waterproof and not crack over the plank joints."

The refurbishment provides long-term protection for the exposed decks, significantly enhancing durability and resistance to environmental and traffic-induced deterioration. The reinforced Triflex waterproofing system safeguards the concrete substrate from water ingress, preventing spalling, delamination, and corrosion of embedded reinforcement. Upstand and beam-line reinforcement further mitigates stress concentration and extends service life in high-wear areas.
Careful surface preparation through shot blasting ensures optimal adhesion and performance of the coatings, while reinstated line markings maintain safety and operational clarity. By combining targeted concrete repairs, reinforced waterproofing, and preventative detailing, CRL delivers a low-maintenance, resilient solution that reduces ongoing intervention needs and supports effective long-term asset management.
